Greek Week 2012

Brett Lux and David Corwin America’s Calling… and Phi Delt’s responded above and beyond again. Missouri State just completed the annual Greek Week celebrations in which Phi Delta Theta was paired with Alpha Chi Omega and Pi Kappa Phi, in celebrating the remembrance of WWII.

Aside from the annual Greek jam competition with our partners, Phi Delt’s participated in philanthropy events at The Brown Egg, Pickelmans, and Qdoba. David Corwin was the chapter’s Greek week chairman responsible for ensuring the chapter exceeded expectations and was accompanied by our Greek God, Brett Lux.

After working hard all week, the Brothers relaxed with exchanges themed “When I Grow Up” and “Cowboys and Indians”. They also enjoyed a good meal prepared for them by the lovely ladies of Alpha Chi Omega when they had a block party and barbecue.

As the semester hit the midpoint and academics began to consume a larger portion of our time, the Greek community was briefly able to relax and enjoy the events of Homecoming. Phi Delts were paired with Gamma Phi and Sigma Nu in what was themed the “Game On” homecoming.

The brothers truly got their “game on” in events such as the annual parade, Up ‘til Dawn, and the Bear Bolt race, in which we took third place. Overall it was another successful homecoming and it was great to visit with all the alumni that made the trip to Springfield.

We hope to see more of you soon!

The Fall semester has been going well. 30 Phikeia have been busy learning more about the chapter, meeting the active brothers, and going beyond their high school group to get the most out of their pledgeship experience. As mid-term passes, greater focus has been placed on grades and academics.

As a Phikeia Educator I continue to emphasize the history of MOEP and Phi Delta Theta, as well as teach them more about how our current Fraternity is run. These two things are very important to me because soon they will be the majority of Phi Delta Theta. These new members are well on their well to becoming active members of Phi Delta Theta.

The Missouri State Phi Delt chapter has received two awards from General Headquarters this summer. Missouri Epsilon was one of 32 chapters in the country to earn the Hayward S. Biggers Ritual Award which is awarded to the chapters that demonstrate quality ritual performance in accordance with the laws of the Fraternity.

We were also one of 32 chapters in the country to earn the Community Service Citation, which is awarded to those chapters that are involved within their communities as volunteers and philanthropists. Like a lot of Missouri State fraternities, we have a fair share of our brothers that live in St. Louis. Last June, we helped our St. Louis Alumni Club raise close to $2000 to benefit ALS Lou Gehrig’s Disease. As, Lou Gehrig was a Phi Delt, we take up fundraising for this cause each year.
